Our Location

Isla Animals works across Isla Mujeres and the Cancún area, responding to rescue cases wherever help is needed — on the island, on the mainland, and in between.

Yes, our base of operations wa located on Isla Mujeres for 23 years until the local govt reclaimed the space they had given us in 2023. However, we have always worked beyond the island and that’s not different today.

Our main shelter, Oasis, is located on the outskirts of Cancún, at the edge of town.

It’s not a public walk-in shelter. Oasis is part of a larger rescue operation — a working space for recovery, medical care, rehabilitation, and coordination. And yes, you can come visit and be part of it!

General Location of Oasis - the Shelter

Oasis, our shelter, is located on the edge of Cancun, about 15 min behind the airport, 40 min from the hotel zone and 40 min from Puerto Juarez. We are also about half an hour from Puerto Morelos and under 1 hour from Playa del Carmen.

Yes, we are a bit out of the way, however, that has proven to have many benefits, from having more peace and quiet for our animals, to not have to worry about disturbing neighbors with all the barking. And, of course, having so much more space for our rescues!

Rescue doesn’t happen in one place.

Dogs are picked up from the island, from neighborhoods on the mainland, from roadside cases and rural areas. Some go directly to clinics. Some come to Oasis. Some move between both depending on their needs.

For safety and logistics reasons (and to avoid more dogs being dumped at our gate), the exact location of the shelter isn’t shared publicly.

Visits, volunteering, and drop-offs are by appointment only. Once something is confirmed, we’ll share clear directions and instructions.

If you have questions about visiting, volunteering, or anything location-related, the best way to reach us is through our contact page.
