Rescue thoughts – FACTS 🤷‍♀️

Isla Animals continue today as it has for 24 years, helping the animals of Isla Mujeres (among other places, as we have always done). We are tired of having to repeat it again and again. Yes, our shelter is in Cancun, yes, we continue working on Isla. We know that most of you that know our work and have followed through the eviction and building process, you know what is our motivation and our mission. ❤🐾

However, there are people that continue saying that we are not helping on Isla. We continue to present facts, and this will be probably the last time we take time out from our never-ending responsibilities to do so. However, we will always fight to protect the reputation of our little non profit with huge ambitions and the work it does! ❤

👉 Fact 1: We simply could not afford renting small inadequate spaces where we could house a handful of dogs at exorbitant prices. It would have been dishonest towards our supporters and donors. So, we did the only thing we could do, relocate, and found a way to keep helping on Isla… and it has been easier than expected!

👉 Fact 2: We are lucky to count with the support of Island Animals Veterinary Center and a very committed volunteer, Ashley, that’s not afraid of anything! Plus, fosters and supporters that help us keep a watching eye on Isla, transport dogs, and so on.

👉 Facts and more facts: We’ll list every single case in the last 10 months since moving to Oasis. Let’s start by the 11 we currently have under our care from Isla.

🐶 Kyra – black fluff ball super sweet and full of energy, she was found in Punta Sur and brought to the shelter, which was much appreciated! She’s the cutest.

🐶 Tecate – she charmed a Canadian family that sadly left but want to adopt her so a friend found her and we are getting her ready for a life up north.

🐶 Lulu and her 8 babies – Lulu has an owner that loves her, but with so many babies, we were beyond thankful they let us take them all and have them here under observation, eating like little piglets and being able to treat them. We will be returning mommy and 2 babies already vaccinated and sterilized.

🐶 Monique – a mini schnauzer looking doggie… can someone please find the breeders!?

🐶 Ollie, Tinkerbell, Snoopy and Scooby – these puppies come from a momma removed from her owners on Isla. Cute little dog that they had looking shaggy and after she settled in her new house the new owner discovered she was pregnant. 3 of her babies are adopted and happy, the last one is pretty much a permanent resident due to genetic issues that have left him with kidney and liver damage.

🐶 Zoey and Foxy – we had been following these girls for a while, and finally were able to take them in (because we do have the space here hurray!) they were both a joy to have, and went from being forgotten in some yard to being loved and cherished!

🐶 Cookie – scariest little girl ever, she is one of those puppies that we see often on Isla (we are certain someone is breeding them!) little schnauzer looking dogs, but with a ton of behavioral issues. She was the first dog that we took in being at Oasis…

👉 Yet, more facts: We also have sterilized a bunch of dogs in La Curva del Diablo and the program is ongoing with bookings all through January thanks to Ashley’s dedication; we have done a c section of a very pregnant dog that hangs out in the street (and has owners though); we have done a few more of those getting local people involved and placing the dogs in better situations, like Manchitas, and a Pitbull that we help fly to Mexico City from Isla. We also have a few ongoing cases we are trying to get sterilized, at least to start with. And let’s not forget the brown dog looking skinny, we found someone who can get stuff done and now the doggie is in treatment, not only helping him, but promoting responsible ownership. We are also trying to help with the blonde dog limping by the ferry, the skinny one by the dump, the one at Mayan Monkey…

🫶 All this, also not counting Rancho Viejo, that also belongs to Isla Mujeres! Because from there we have taken Pedrito, Nutmeg, Mint, Peppermint, Rosemary, Sage, Basil, Moe, Larry, Curly, Mamacita, Bebecita, Bella, Don Corleone and Timmy…

And then the cases from people that know us from Isla and reach out, because…. When did we became racist about where dogs come from?! 🤣 In that case, Sarabi and her four babies – which have spent 6 months in the shelter already -, Hershey, and honestly who knows how many more!

We have shared our account at the vet Island Animals where people that want to help the Isla dogs can go straight there and donate towards the Isla Animals debt and future bills and this community responded beautifully ❤️, we are always touched by how much you all care. 🙏

These are facts only about our work on Isla. We do a lot more and have a lot more projects going on.

Be aware, reach out, educate yourself, there is a lot of lying and misinformation going on. Get involved, foster, adopt, donate, be part of this community, after all Caring is Global! 🌎
