Lily is a special girl… not only cause she comes from Isla Mujeres, but because she is the example of some many things that make us grown green hair!
You may remember Lily from publications a few months ago… She was found by our volunteer on Isla with a huge gap on her leg. Lily’s young owner asked our volunteer for help, we thought it was sweet and Ashley got into getting her the medical help she needed.
After a few days of healing (and getting spayed), she was returned to the owners. The hope was that we were working on the bigger problem that is owner responsibility, making clear asking for help is ok when necessary… hoping to promote better care for the animals, making sure people understand dogs are not toys… the overall issue that is the mentality around dogs and something that is a lot harder to change…
And we kept checking up on Lily…
UNTIL… we are told the owners are not gonna feed her anymore. Lily was already left free to roam around the invasion, thankfully, she was spayed, but still… and then they decide not to care at all anymore for her.
We are just a rescue, we can help Lily and now she lives with us and it’s part of the Isla Animals family, and we will find her the home she deserves… but the issue of promoting responsible ownership is a road with more frustrations than we can realistically handle.
Lily is safe, she’s loved, she’s precious. Now, her young owner was taught that if you just don’t want a dog anymore, you can get rid of it. And the cycle continues. Because it’s not a dog problem (only) it’s a people problem really…
Interested in Lily? She’s sweet, loving, playful, not hyper, she’s on the small side… she’s a perfect gorgeous girl!
