Less space more dogs… this is a disaster!

Oh dear… 😱😱😱 Things are OUT OF CONTROL!!!

With the rain ⛈ we are getting reports constantly… and we are just so tired and so sad to have to say no… 😔 we try, we really try to say yes to every dog we can fit somewhere… but we are forced today to CLOSE INTAKE at least until the middle of September. ❌❌❌

When we got evicted 4 months ago, we tried to close intake… it lasted 4 days… 😆 we are softies but now we have pushed every limit and pushed again. With the space we currently have we could safely have 20 to 25 dogs… We have currently 40 ANIMALS! 😱 It may not sound much (we’ve had over 80) BUT remember we DON’T HAVE OUR SHELTER ANYMORE! 😩Our temporary location can house 15 to 18 puppies only… and our built is not ready, a building that we are supervising and working AT THE SAME TIME that we vet our dogs, get them into safety and figure out how to get them adopted.

Additionally, this is low season… Last year we sent only 5 dogs in September… 😟 While this year we have sent more dogs than ever before, we are in for a very hard month…

Our souls need a break from having to say NO to so many dogs in need 💔, not because we want to, clearly, but because we do not have anywhere else to put them!!! We need to refocus the little time we have into getting these guys healthy and adopted. We do a very thorough vetting, and we make a priority to make sure the dogs we take in have the best chance, so cramping dogs in a room is not an option…

These are our Isla Animals babies and we need to care for them and find them homes! Yes… while we sort out walls and fences and learn about plumbing and electric wiring. Madness! 😵

👉6 -Guardians of the Galaxy pups – ready for adoption

👉4 – dogs in general population – adopted – leaving soon

👉Gretel – in treatment, must fly checked

👉Lopez – Recovering from leg surgery – in foster – will be ready in 2 weeks – too big for cabin

👉Apple – In chemo treatment – in foster – will be ready for adoption in 5 weeks – too big for cabin

👉Kayla – behavioral issues (extremely shy and refuses to go out of the house) – in foster – too big for cabin

👉Vaiana – too young – in foster

👉Esperanza – our amputee dog – in foster

👉Chai (cat) – in foster – ready for adoption

👉Mommy and 9 babies just rescued – long term foster

👉4 puppies – in treatment and still not vaccinated or sterilized – at the shelter

👉3 puppies – too young to be vaccinated – in foster

👉2 chis – too young to be vaccinated – in foster

👉1 lone puppy – in foster

👉2 young adult dogs – starting testing and vaccination – in foster – too big to fly in cabin

If we were to do 1 vaccine and sterilize every single one of these dogs.. that comes to 42,000 mxp… 💲 BUT we do 3 vaccines plus rabies and of course spay and neuter, and deworming, and test for distemper and parvo, and ehrlichia and heartworm… and treatments and surgeries… We cannot jeopardize the building by taking funds from there to do this… cause we would be jeopardizing our future… So we constantly try to find a balance while never neglecting vetting. But we are at our limits. 😕

So, we are sorry, but for now we are going to concentrate on the doggies we have, as you can see there is a bit of everything on that list…
